 Merle Goldman (1931~2023; Chinese: 戈德曼) is an American historian and sinologist of modern China.

1953年畢業於莎拉·勞倫斯學院，並且在拉德克利夫學院取得其碩士學位。1964年取得哈佛大學歷史及遠東語言學博士學位，師從史華慈和費正清。在衛斯理學院擔任一年的講師以後，她自1972年起在波士頓大學擔任教授超過30年，期間曾經擔任《中國季刊》編輯委員會成員、美國駐聯合國人權委員會委員等職位。^[3]

China: A New History (1992) was the last book by her mentor, John King Fairbank, who finished the manuscript but died before it could be published. The work was edited and seen through the press by Goldman's long-time friend and colleague Paul Cohen.^[11] When the time came for a new edition, Goldman herself added a chapter on developments in China since the first edition, and she is listed as co-author.^[12]
