Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI of France were married #onthisday in 1770. They would later rule as king and queen with Louis’ accession in 1774. This pair of portraits drawn in pen and ink is by Jean Joseph Bernard and was completed around 1786. The royal couple were dethroned in 1792 following the constitutional reforms of the French Revolution, and were both executed under charges of counterrevolution in 1793.
