The first edition of this book was published in 1972 in Japan, the text of the 1978 edition was used as the source material for this latest English language edition.
This book is based on the work of Frederick William Lancaster who was born in London in 1865. He began research in aeronautics in 1892 and was awarded the Guggenheim gold medal for aeronautics in 1931.
In 1895 he designed and built the first petrol car in England. He founded the Lanchester car company and consulted with Daimler and Wolsley car companies.
His work Aircraft in Warfare was published in 1916, leading to significant developments in military and marketing strategy. His equations of combat are taught today in military colleges. He is recognised by the annual Lancaster Prize awarded by the Operations Research Society.
"Widely practiced in Japan, but understood by only a handful of business leaders in the rest of the world, the Lancaster Strategy is speeding around the globe because it defines how to be a winner in the global marketplace.
If you want to understand the new economy, this book could be your most important purchase of the decade."
