Not I, but theWind... (Frieda Lawrence)

Frieda Lawrence. Not I, But the Wind. New York: Viking Press, 1934....

(Not I, But the Wind)

Frieda Lawrence【1879-1956】《不是我,是風—勞倫斯妻子回憶勞倫斯》( "Not I, but theWind...", Rydal/Viking, 1934.),新華出版社,2006

Janet Byrne: A Genius for Living - A Biography of Frieda Lawrence, Bloomsbury, 1995.

pined in thought,
And with a green and yellow melancholy
She sat like patience on a monument,
Smiling at grief. . . .

Twelfth Night: Act II, scenes iii–iv
學生參考書說法:“Patience on a monument” refers to statues of the allegorical figure of Patience, which often adorned Renaissance tombstones. By comparing her imaginary sister to this stone figure, Viola subtly contrasts her own passion with the self-indulgent and grandiose lovesickness from which Orsino claims to suffer.
