美乏善可陳,丑有無限可能。《美妙的丑陋》是一部深入探討「丑」的文化史全新力作。丑陋似乎可以修飾任何事物:丑陋的面孔,丑陋的歌聲,丑陋的建築,丑陋的味道,丑陋的作品……但它又不止於這些關聯性,在與這些關聯性的周旋中還帶來了一些改變。本書細數歷史中被貼上「丑陋」標簽的個體和群體,他們各自以不同的形式反抗社會定俗,挑戰主流審美,突破偏見壓力,為美與丑的灰色地帶創造更多的可能性。本書還跨越不同的感官界限,分別從視覺、聽覺、嗅覺、味覺和觸覺各方面追溯與丑陋有關的文化姿態,通過整合不同的丑陋感官體驗,對丑陋進行了一次跨時空、跨領域的文化探索。



格雷琴·亨德森,生於舊金山。哥倫比亞大學藝術碩士,密蘇里大學博士。現為美國喬治敦大學講師、加州大學助理研究員,並受多所院校邀請講授創意寫作課程。亨德森的學識研究跨越文學、藝術、音樂、殘疾研究、性別研究等多個領域,目前已出版多部小說、詩歌、樂評以及文化史作品。
